Diamond Fun Facts

Here is some information I found about Diamonds at the Jewelry Information Center website:

The word "diamond" comes from the ancient Greek "adamas," meaning unconquerable.

"Carat," the measure of diamond weight is derived from the Greek "keration," the name for the uniform in weight carob seed.

Cut, color, clarity, and carat are the "4Cs" that guide a jeweler in determining a diamond's value.
"Clarity" refers to a diamond's freedom from internal inclusions such as internal cracks or tiny crystals. A diamond may be termed "flawless" if a trained eye can detect no inclusions under 10-power magnification.

"Cut" refers to the way a diamond is cut and polished, the proportion of the diamond that dictates the maximum amount of light the diamond will refract and reflect, and the diamond's facets.

The term "fancy" diamond means pear, oval, or emerald cut stones.
Red is the very rarest color for a diamond.

Marilyn Monroe's famed comment as the character Lorelei Lee, "Diamonds are a girl's best friend," is a classic. But Mark Twain in "Puddin' Head Wilson's Calendar" said, "It is better to have old second-hand diamonds than none at all."

A carat is divided into 100 points.

The "old miner" refers to a diamond cut that is round but has many fewer facets than the modern brilliant cut.

The color deemed ideal for a gem quality diamond is colorless.

The Hope Diamond is a rare and famous example of a diamond with a deep blue body color.

Diamond Jim Brady, whose diamond studded accessories caused quite a stir, showered ladyfriend Lillian Russell with extravagant diamond gifts among which was a diamond bracelet with her name in red diamonds.

Industrial diamonds, which are used in precision machinery because they are the hardest substance known, differ from gem diamonds because they are of inferior color and quality.

The man who first discovered how best to release the diamond's fiery brilliance from the unprepossessing rough gem was Vincenti Peruzzi, a Venetian lapidary who lived in the 17th century.

Lakewood Jewelry Store

I know whenever I have had to buy jewelry, I am always skeptical as to where I go. I always feel like I am getting ripped off and that the jewelry is so over priced. I have also made the mistake of going to the big Denver Jewelry Stores. This last time I went to a Lakewood Jewelry Store and was very pleased with the result, at least I didn't feel like I got ripped off anyway.

I found FJR Jewelers on West Colfax in Lakewood and thought I would just check it out. To my surprise the Jewelry wasn't as expensive as I had seen in prior jewelry stores. Although the store wasn't huge, they had a lot of different peices. The thing I liked about this Lakewood Jewelry Store was I felt like I could trust the owner right away. He asked what I was willing to spend and what I had in mind. He ended up giving me a great deal under the marked price!

I have never heard of this at other Lakewood Jewelry stores. I have never felt too comfortable in the other Denver Jewelry stores either like I had in FJR Jewelers. FRJ also buys gold and diamond jewelry at a pretty good price. If you're looking for a Lakewood Jeweler you can feel comfortable talking too and can trust you should check out FJR Jewelers on Colfax.

How Diamond Prices are Determined

When it comes to pricing most products, it is quite simple. By determining how much the cost price is and how much it costs to market the product, you simply mark the total up by at least 15% to 30% or more to earn profits. Pricing Denver diamonds is not quite as simple as pricing other products. There are many factors that need to be considered before launching them to the market.

The first thing that diamond prices are determined by is adding the cost of the rough diamond, the cost of cutting the diamond and all the other cost to turn a rough and unrefined diamond into a marketable diamond. After turning it into a marketable diamond, the company may need to call an independent company in to certify the grade of the diamond based on its weight, clarity, cut and colour.

As the diamond changes hands, it becomes more expensive. When it reaches the retailers the price is again increased a little bit more. As you can see from here, before a Denver diamond reaches the retailer, it must travel from the mine, to the cutter and polisher, then to the individual grading company, and lastly to the primary market. From the primary market, jewelry store owners and retailers will then purchase the diamond and sell it to the consumers. Therefore, the earlier you can purchase a diamond in the process, the lower the cost of it will be.

If you have recently just bought a diamond and do not know how much it is worth, you can send your diamonds for appraisal, but take note that the appraisal may not be accurate. A more accurate way to determine the price of your diamond is to obtain its certificate and use the cutter's guide to determine a more accurate worth for your diamond.

You can also surf the Internet and locate many diamond worth calculators. Before you can calculate the worth of your Denver diamond using those calculators, you need to know the cuts, clarity, colour and weight of it. With this information, the calculator will be able to determine an accurate worth of your diamond.

Again, the best way to determine the price of a diamond is to get a Diamond Grading Report and use the information in it to look up the price in one of the guides that your diamond cutting industry uses. With the right worth in mind, you will be better informed about the value that you have paid for the diamond in your possession, as well as of the Denver diamond jewelry that you are considering purchasing.

Tips for Choosing a Denver Jewelry Store

Choosing the right Denver jewelry store can be a difficult task. Between chain stores, local shops, kiosks, booths, and many other places that sell jewelry, you have to be able to decide where to go. The challenge is finding a store that is reputable and offers affordable products. Here are some tips to help you avoid bad jewelry stores.

Where to Go:

When deciding where to go for purchasing diamonds, there are a few factors to consider.
First, what is the quality of the merchandise on display? If the jeweler sells silver pieces for the same price as gold pieces, then you should avoid doing business with them. Additionally, if the jeweler specializes in handling cubic zirconium and other knock-offs of real diamond products, then chances are you should look elsewhere.

Next, consider the location of the jewelry store. If the jewelers you are dealing with do not have a permanent shop, then they are probably not people you should be buying diamonds from. After all, if they can pack up and move to a different town at a moments notice, then nothing will stop them from deceiving you with low quality products at a high price.

Finally, think about the size of the store. The larger the store, the more buying the store has to do for inventory. Because suppliers give the best deals to jewelers who purchase the most products, larger dealers can generally offer the lowest price on Denver jewelry.

Other Diamond Buying Tips:

If you are purchasing a diamond for someone you truly care about, you should buy designer diamond jewelry. Designer jewelry has the highest fashion standards, making them the most attractive for people to wear. Their designs for pendants, rings, or anything else always look better than non-designer jewelry.

Another thing you should be on the lookout for is a Denver jewelry shop that's having a sale. When companies have sales, sometimes it is because nobody wants the products they are trying to sell. However, more often than not, sales take place simply because they have old stock that they want to get rid of to make room for a new shipment. Take advantage of a jeweler’s desire to move old merchandise and save yourself a lot of money.

Finally, shop around. Look into multiple locations that sell jewelry. Denver diamond jewelry can be very expensive, so you should be cautious when purchasing. If you are buying a gift, make sure that the piece you have truly symbolizes your love for that person. You don’t want your loved one to receive an expensive gift and not be absolutely floored.

By following the tips listed here, you will certainly be able to find the perfect diamond jewelry you have been looking for. Remember that not all Denver diamond sellers are trustworthy, so always be cautious. Additionally, use common sense when shopping for diamonds. Do not let a salesman swindle you into purchasing something that you feel uneasy about.

Denver Jeweler

Have you ever gone into a Denver jewelry store and talked to a jeweler, only to find that he actually knows less about diamonds than you do? Isn't that frustrating? Unfortunately, in the utilitarian world we live in, most artistic careers aren't given as much care and attention as those that relate to business. This is a cruel and demoralizing fact about our society, but not one without a remedy.

If the mainstream diamond jewelers are not doing their art justice, look for someone who does. Typically, they are small, privately owned establishments that create their own products in the back of their store. Wouldn't it be amazing if a jeweler actually was familiar with the term "fire breathing" when it comes to diamonds? Wouldn't it be astounding if he could measure his jewelry with something other than just "carats"?

You are looking for an artist, not a sales representative. You want someone who is not there to sell as much as teach you what making good jewelry is all about, and how to tell the difference. You want a friend, not a corporation, to ask you what you would like this ring to symbolize, and offer their time, effort, and consideration into making it even better.

I would not only encourage, but also strongly advise you going and checking out your Denver's Best Jewelry store: FJR Jewelers. It is an eye-opening experience you will never regret. Who knows, when it comes to jewelry, this fifteen-minute excursion could be the best thing you ever do.

Lakewood Jewelry Store

If you're looking for a one stop Lakewood Jewelry Store, look no further than FJR Jewelers on West Colfax Ave. We have gone to many of the Lakewood Jewelers and have had mixed results. Don't be thrown off by the size of their jewelry store. If there is something you want or need to get, FJR Jewelers can get it for you and usually at a cheaper price. The best thing about FJR Jewelers is they sell custom jewelry at wholesale prices! Of all the Lakewood jewelry stores we visited, FJR Jewelers had the best prices. They were selling the same jewelry as the other Lakewood Jewelry Stores at a cheaper price. If price is a concern, you should check out FJR Jewelers.

Four C's of Diamonds

Consumers and members of the diamond industry are buying and selling diamonds based on their light performance and these four C's:

Clarity - Describes the clearness or purity of a diamond. This is determined by the number, size, nature, and location of the internal and external (blemishes) imperfections.

Color - Describes the amount of color the diamond contains. This can range from colorless to yellow with slight tints of yellow, gray or brown. Colors can also range from intense yellow to brown, blue, green, pink and red. These fancy color are rare and therefore more valuable.

Cut - Refers to the proportions, finish, symmetry, and polish of the diamond. These factors determine the fire and brilliance of a diamond. Well cut diamonds sell at a premium and poorly cut diamonds sell at discounted prices. With the advent of technology, the cut of the diamond can be determined through the use of the Dia-Mension system, a computerized system which takes accurate measurements and proportions of a diamond in seconds, in addition to the standard millimeter gauge.

Carat Weight - Is the unit of weight for the diamond. A carat is further subdivided in 100 points ( 0.01 carat = l point ). One carat is equal to 0.20 grams. Value per carat increases with carat size, because larger rough diamonds occur less frequently. In other words, 2 half-carat diamonds taken together will not cost as much as 1 one-carat diamond, as the one-carat stone is more rare.

Denver GOLD Purchaser

There are many different reasons a person would choose to buy gold coins in Denver. A person might choose to buy gold coins for investment purposes. With the way today's economy is shaping up, investing in gold is the safest way to protect one's portfolio. Another reason a person might choose to purchase gold coins is gold's ability to increase in value. There is a high demand for rare gold coins among collectors. Regardless of the reasons, buying gold coins is safe way for someone to invest his or her money without fear that the investment will lose its value.
The first step in buying gold coins is to find an honest and reputable dealer. Avoid buying from places that are not members of the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). The most important thing is to deal with a trustworthy dealer. I f you deal with someone who is not a member of these organizations, you risk dealing with someone who will sell you counterfeit gold.

After you have found a reputable dealer you will then need to figure out how much gold you are willing to buy. This is important because the price of gold constantly fluctuates, and you will need to figure out how much you want to lock in at its current price.

Perhaps the only downside to buying gold coins is the possibility of overpaying for the product. This is why buying from the right gold dealer is particularly important. Nobody wants to get cheated out of their money. Generally, most gold dealers sell their merchandise at prices slightly higher than true market value. This is because they, too, need to make a profit to stay in business. Doing the proper research and knowing the true market value of the Denver gold coins will help you manage your investment safely and prevent you from getting cheated.
